This filter checks the type of a file before applying its subfilters. There are three main classes of file type identified:

ANSI (note: UTF-8 files marked with a Byte Order Mark are not processed as ANSI files)
UTF16, both LE and BE. To enforce a consistent Byte Order, use the Make Big Endian or Make Little Endian filters
UTF32, both LE and BE. To enforce a consistent Byte Order, use the Make Big Endian or Make Little Endian filters
