Extract email addresses

Post by DFH » Tue Jan 08, 2019 7:30 pm

The filter Extract email addresses does not correctly extract addresses with the plus extension of the addressee that Google permits with gmail.com

It should be enhanced to cope with addresses in the form

Code: Select all

person+anything@gmail.com
Currently it fails badly and outputs

Code: Select all

anything@gmail.com
Check the specifics, but I think that Google's extension allows more than one plus character.

This was surprising, seeing that the filter does recognise the minus character in

Code: Select all

grumpy-old-men@social.net
btw. Google ignores any dots in the addressee's name. Thus these are equivalent:

Code: Select all

fred.jones@gmail.com
fredjones@gmail.com
f.redjon.es@gmail.com
NB. I've not tested whether this filter can cope with email addresses that have Unicode characters beyond the ANSI range.
That also should be reviewed.

Hi Simon,

Will this issue be fixed with TextPipe version 10.8 ?

Best regards,

David

Hi David,

Yes - this is updated ready for 10.8.

Note - every email service supports this, not just gmail.

Simon
