Dear Simon,
I have properly uninstalled TextPipe, restarted the PC, and then installed yesterday's download again and yet it still thinks it is version 8.4.
This is very frustrating!
This is not the first time I have encountered this behaviour when updating to a new version of TextPipe.
You really should make things simpler for users installing an update (rather than replacing an evaluation version).
Nowadays, almost all other Windows programs can be updated seamlessly without requiring a prior uninstall.
Why are Datamystic programs so different in this lack of user friendliness?
Moreover, users are not warned that they will lose all that they have programmed as Shell Extensions!
Updaters are not given any help on what steps to take to be able to preserve their Shell Extensions.
I take my own steps to export the following branch of the registry, and merge it in back in afterwards.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\DataMystic\TextPipe\ShellFilters
This sort of advanced users action should not be assumed.
Why make your customers have to "jump through hoops" merely to get a more up to date software version?
Best regards,
David Haslam
