A numbering problem

Post by paulslals » Thu Apr 22, 2004 8:42 pm

I am using TextPipe to convert a set of transcripts of dialogue, and I want to add a number to each turn (inside a tag <u id="idno" turn="nnn">) in a file, so that each turn is uniquely identified. I have had no problems with setting up the conversion filters to do everything I want except the numbering of the turns. My solution for the moment is to do the conversion work and leave "nnn" in the file, then to run a short Perl script from the Command Prompt on the altered files so that each occurrence of "nnn" is changed to a number with incremental increases, "1", "2", "3" and so on. What I'd like to be able to do is to integrate this into my TextPipe filter, either by running the Perl script somehow within TextPipe, or by finding an alternative method in TextPipe to do the same thing. Can anyone suggest a way to do this?

Hi Paul,

Use a VBScript to perform the numbering for you. Place it inside a search and replace for 'nnn'

Thanks, Simon. Now I'll have to go and learn some VBScript :)

By the way, you can use Perlscript in the Textpipe scripting filter. You don't have to use VBScript. We just tend to call the scripting filter "VBScript" out of habit.

It will be renamed the 'Script' filter in future versions, if there is no dissention in the ranks or any alternative suggestions...
