tab delimited log

Postby Guest » Thu Jan 15, 2004 2:59 am

I need the sender, date, subject, and attachment name in tab delimited format.

Reason: I have a FileMaker database with all of our email archived as records and need to associated the FM record with the attachment(s) that were originally with the email.

The information that is shown after analyizing would do the the job, how do I get that info?

TIA

John

Hi John,

We could certainly make that change for you - how many copies were you looking to purchase?

The simple answer is 1, but you may be able to help with the whole project.

Goal: Capture all mail flowing through our firm (around 1,000 daily) to a database. Removal of attachments to a directory while maintaining a link to the record/email in the database.

Purpose: Satisfy the SEC Books & Records rule for money managers. Be able to quickly reproduce emails for the SEC when audited.

Thanks
John

I think ResumePipe would be more up your alley. You can get it to ignore all attachments by telling it you want to handle them manually, and the text of all emails can be extracted and then saved to a database. I'm not sure about maintaining a link in the email text, but when the attachments are saved you can control what they are called, e.g. to include the date, email adddress etc. This would make it easy to find them at a later date.

Does this sound like it would help?

I keep getting a "invalid_session" in the forums when I try to post.

Here is my reply

Correct me if Im wrong, but with ResumePipe I would still not have a direct relation to the email record other than looking at the fields in the database and then looking in the directory for a file name containing the same information. - Sounds tedious

If you were to allow me to get the before mentioned information into a delimited form, I could then create a relational database which matched the file to the email record without changing the name of the file.

The key is getting name of the attachment into the database.

Are you willing make such a change for little old me?

John
