Some questions from exisiting customer

Postby ARCNET » Fri Jul 14, 2006 4:13 am

I wanted to upgrade to a newer version; I have been an existing customer for some years now, though my company never took the support option, but this time we are thinking of upgrading our version and taking the support, and I have a few questions.

How the program is used. We have a huge public folders system on our exchange server. Nearly everyone has an attachment and to save space on the exchange server I detach the attachments and save them on another server. My department does not want anyone else to have the option of doing this, because you can well imagine what would happen to the attachments and messages if we did.

Here are some issues.

When I first started to use the program, it detached the attachment(s), placed a editable text file telling the user what happened to the attachment, then supplied a hyperlink at the bottom of the message.

Then in a later version, the program detached the attachments, and supplied a redirect (dtp) attachment at the end of the message.

Then a later version went back to saving the attachments the first way I described it.

***************************************

How does the new version save the attachments?

Is there a way to take the messages that have the (dtp) attachment, reattach it, and detach it in the way the first way described above?

Hi there,

The current version adds a hyperlink to the top of the message.

If you still have the old version, you can use it to re-attach the DTP files. If need be we can dig out an old version for you to do this - please contact us via email, with your purchase receipt number and email address.

I have purchased the new version DetachPipe Pro for Microsoft Outlook. I can not find how to detach files from public folders, or pst folders, ect. It looks like its only allowing me to create rules to detach incoming and outgoing emails

Select the emails, and then click the DetachPipe\Detach.

D'OH....LOL, thanks I guess I was just used to the old way, the new way is much nicer and cleaner....

Do you think you could scrounge up that old version so I can clean off those dtp files?

Is there also away to get the file "About DetachPipe Attachments.txt" to be actually attached to the email. Right now it appears to be just a pointer, and any one who is not using my system, where detachpipe is installed, can not open the text file.

When you login, you'll see a second download option for DetachPipe 4.7.3, which works with the .DTP files.

The attachment 'About DetachPipe Attachments' is always removed when you forward it to another user. The name is the key- if you rename it then it won't be removed.

The link you're referring to was placed there when the file was deleted (via the Recycle Bin). If you undelete the file from your Recycle Bin, it is restored to its original location, and the link can be used to re-attach it.

I don't think I was clear about what I was asking.

If someone in my office, say sitting next to me, tries to open the 'About DetachPipe Attachments' text file, the can't. They get an error message, file not found. In the past we used the 'About DetachPipe Attachments' text file with a custom message in the body of the text file, so it explained to the individual what happened to the original attachment and how to open it.
Is there a way to attach that "file" instead of it just being a shortcut?
