.pst file size didn't seem to change after detaching...

Post by conradwilson » Thu Aug 05, 2004 11:55 pm

Hi, sorry if I am asking a question that is answered elsewhere...

DetachPipe looks wonderful for what I would like to do, but when I used the evaluation copy to detach items from my folders, the .pst file didn't seem to get any smaller. The folder that was created to house the attachments is substantial, so I know that a lot of data was removed. And the individual email attachments are now correctly links, with a small storage requirement.

Why are the .pst files still large? Do I have to compress them manually with the windows .pst properties tool?

Thanks for your time,
Conrad Wilson

Yes - you have to manually compact them. This is because DetachPipe avoids impacting on your Outlook installation by not integrating into it. It can also integrate with Lotus Notes and other MAPI systems, and there is no 'compact' method in MAPI.
