Notepad and Unicode

According to some of the experts on Unicode, Notepad does not provide full support for it. Using Notepad may sometimes give unexpected results. No matter what encoding you saved a text file with, Notepad will always 'try to guess' when you open the file. On a WinXP machine, try typing in Notepad the...

And the corrective action is?

Dear Simon, I still do not understand why TextPipe 8.0 stopped, even though TextPipe 7.9.5 works for my original filter. Was this a bug in TextPipe 8.0, or simply advice to improve my filter? Surely if TextPipe decides to stop when it encounters such inefficiency, it should provide better clarity in...

Microsoft Wordpad and Unicode

Many users do not fully appreciate that Wordpad fully supports Unicode. Files saved from Wordpad as Unicode text files are stored as UTF16 Little Endian.

Full Unicode support appertains to Wordpad shipped in Windows XP (& Vista). cf. Windows 9x had limited support.

Editpad Lite and Unicode encoding conversions

Owners of TextPipe Standard do not have access to the filters of TextPipe Pro to convert between different encoding formats for Unicode. UTF8 UTF16 LE UTF16 BE UTF32 LE UTF32 BE There are third party tools that can provide such a feature. One such file editor is called EditPad Pro™ , and the 'free f...

What happened to the documented Remove all filter ?

A Remove all filter is described in the Help file as follows: This filter removes all text. It is useful in two main situations 1. Inside a subfilter, it prevents any of the subfiltered text from re-entering the text stream. So you could restrict to lines matching a pattern, output the matching line...

Reverted to use version 7.9.5

Dear Simon,

While DataMystic are still working towards a solution, I have re-installed version 7.9.5 in place of version 8.0 - so that I can continue using the filter as before.

Best regards,
David H.

If so, then why did it work so smoothly in v7.9.5 ?

Dear Simon, Your response does not explain why my filter worked so smoothly with TextPipe Standard v7.9.5 and just stops in version 8.0 Processing a whole [Bible] VPL text file took less than 5 seconds before. If my filter was really that inefficient, why was it so fast? Or have I misunderstood some...

The above example has been like this for a long time

I just tried something similar with the earlier version of TextPipe that is installed in my computer at work. Version 7.1.7 is a few years old. The same issue affects a replace list subfilter of (for example) a restrict filter. | |--Comment... | |--Restrict lines:Line 8 .. line 18 | | | +--Perl patt...

Towards a solution for you - ZIP file contains new filter

http://rapidshare.com/files/76788750/DFH_sorted_text_list.zip.html The ZIP file contains my new Textpipe filter only. Try it with your text file. I have tested it and found only one remaining issue, which is commented. Adapt the perl expression I devised, just as you may require. Best regards, David

Further clues about the replace list bug

If you make a simple filter in which a comment has a replace list as a subfilter, then if you export the filter to clipboard, only the first row of the replace list is indented as part of the subfilter. The remaining rows are NOT indented, but are in the same level as the comment. |--Comment... | | ...
